Howard Buick-GMC has been a family owned dealership for more than 65 years. Howard Zazove, for whom the dealership is named, started in the automobile business in 1945. With 18 years of experience, Howard opened his first dealership in 1963. In 1975 he opened Howard Pontiac at the current location, 364 W. Grand Ave, in Elmhurst. In 1978, the “Howard’s Mother Loves You” television campaign debuted; which started the tradition of giving customers chocolate chip cookies when they purchased a car. We continue this tradition today, to show our appreciation to every customer. Though the campaign has not been on television for many years, it is still how the Howard dealership is best remembered.
In 1986, Howard’s oldest son, Steven Zazove took over the operation of the dealership. Steve is still President of the dealership and remains committed to principles that his father taught him; total customer satisfaction, and give away cookies with every car purchased. Under Steve’s management Howard Pontiac was one of the largest Pontiac dealerships in the United States. For years, the dealership sold more Pontiac Firebirds than any other Pontiac dealer.
In 1998, GMC Trucks were added to the Howard family of dealerships. The line of GMC SUV’s; GMC Acadia, GMC Terrain and GMC Yukon are popular choices and an important product for Howard Buick-GMC. In 2006 Steve recognized the quality and style available from Buick and added that nameplate to the dealership. The decision proved correct with as the awards for style, performance and safety continue for Buick. The name has changes slightly over the years, but the commitment to quality cars and total customer satisfaction remain the same as when Howard Zazove started his first dealership in 1963. Oh yes, and the commitment to giving cookies is still there too!
Coming in 2011, the dealership will be remodeled and modernized to better serve our loyal customers. A fresh new look, but of course, the commitment will carry on. We thank you for your business and look forward to serving you from our new, updated dealership in the years to come.
